I uninstalled the software and tried re-installing it again. I then found that both libssl.so.4 and libcrypto.so.4 files were added to /usr/lib, which I thought was a good thing. This is the first time I found my connection terminated. I confess, I only have a vague idea what these libraries are. It needed libssl.so.4 and libcrypto.so.4, which it said it could replace with libssl.so.0.9.8 and libcrypto.so.0.9.8 respectively. When I installed netExtender the very first time after re-installing ubuntu, the installer warned me of a couple of dependency issues that it thought it could solve.
